china institute for rural studies (cirs) was set up in 2011. it is a university-level academic and research institution, an interdisciplinary research platform for agro-related disciplines, and one of the key think tanks at tsinghua university, which is affiliated with the school of public policy and management.
cirs takes “serving the rural revitalization strategy and contributing to the modernization of agriculture and rural areas and the development of the chinese path to modernization” as its own responsibilities.
based on studies of strategic and advanced issues concerning agriculture, rural areas and farmers (“sannong” issues, meaning the three agricultural issues), cirs has striving to make itself as a top think tank for supporting policies towards “sannong” issues, an important base for cultivating high-quality talents in agro-related disciplines, and a first-rate platform for integrating resources of various sorts to serve china’s rural reform and development.
