abstract:
on march 17, 2015, the brookings-tsinghua center is hosting a public talk on the impact of renminbi internationalization, featuring eswar prasad, senior fellow in global economy and development studies at the brookings institution, and guest commentator qian yingyi, dean and professor of school of economics and management at tsinghua university.
eswar prasad will draw upon his recent book the dollar trap to discuss the current state of the international monetary system, prospects for the renminbi to become a global reserve currency, the danger of currency wars, and the path forward to a more stable system.
eswar prasad is the tolani senior professor of trade policy at cornell university. he is also a senior fellow at the brookings institution, where he holds the new century chair in international economics, and a research associate at the national bureau of economic research. he was previously chief of the financial studies division in the international monetary fund's research department and, before that, was the head of the imf's china division.
the talk will be followed by q&a session. working language will be english with simultaneous interpretation.
